With the wonderful year we have experienced so far, I am sure there are many different emotions surrounding back to school. I know as a Mom of four girls, my kids miss seeing their friends at school and their extracurricular activities. During this time, whether you are schooling online or in the classroom, having the proper immune support can help ease your mind in knowing you are taking all the steps that you possibly can to keep you and your family healthy.
Cold and flu season is upon us in addition to the risks surrounding concerns with COVID-19. Therefore, I have compiled what I believe to be the top immune support supplements out there. I know it takes extra time to add anything to our daily routine but it’s definitely worth it. One thing that has helped us is giving the supplements out during morning or lunch instead of waiting until bedtime. I try to avoid adding anything to our nightly routine since everyone is tired and there are many things being accomplished during that time!
Top immune boosting supplements for children:
Zinc: Zinc is brought into key cells that act as first responders against infection. It is vital in the process of fighting infection and balances the immune response. We use a liquid zinc that is easy to dose for children. Make sure to take it with food.
Vitamin D3 preferably with K2: Vitamin D plays a huge role in our immune response. It assists with bone health, heart health, prevention of autoimmunity and prevention of cancer. Make sure it is taken with fat. The one I get my kiddos already has some coconut oil in it so that is a great option!
Probiotic: Our gut is considered our second brain. Probiotics help strengthen our bodies by improving gut barrier function. It is crucial to have a probiotic that is of high quality.
Thieves essential oil: We cannot make claims since this is a blend made of herbs but it has strong immune boosting and wound healing properties. We put it in a roller bottle and put in on the bottom of our children’s feet before bed.
Ningxia Red: Reduces oxidative stress and is a nutrient rich drink loaded with antioxidants to boost your immune system. Serving is 1 to 2 ounces a day so very doable for little ones!
Vitamin C: Helps your body to make white blood cells to help fight against infection. I give 500 mg to my kids daily.
Vitamin A: Helps with the production of white blood cells as well as their function. It is another fat soluble vitamin so be sure to make sure it is taken with a meal that contains fat.
